CLIFTON PARK >> Shendehowa senior Kevin Huerter has been announced as the 2016 Mr. New York Basketball from the Basketball Coaches Association of New York. Huerter is only the second Shenendehowa player to receive the honor, following Greg Koubek in 1987.

Huerter was one four nominees for this year award, including Long Island Lutheran Devonte Green, Greece Athena Anthony Lamb and Jefferson High School Shamorie Ponds.

really special, especially the level of the nominees, Kevin Huerter said. a prestigious award, it usually given to the best basketball player in New York. I know there are a lot of other great players, I know the other three guys that were also nominated with me. All of those guys will move on and have great careers, so it a tremendous honor for myself.

think it a good reflection on the rest of the team and the type of season we had over the last couple of years, but I couldn do it without my teammates, Huerter said. put on the state level for everyone to see definitely helped and get me this award. It a great year and a tremendous honor to have it.

think Greg name pops up here at least twice a day at practice at Shen, someone is always talking about him, Huerter said. be put in the same sentence with him, comparing us is tremendous honor knowing that we both come from the same school, public school, home grown.

know Greg really well and my dad used to play against him, they had great runs with each other. It a tremendous honor. NY Basketball nominees:
