white adidas hoodie Adidas profiting from Kevin Ware’s injury
CINCINNATI A t shirt released by the University of Louisville and Adidas is drawing criticism after many claim it capitalizes on Kevin Ware’s gruesome leg injury during the team’s win over Duke last week.
The shirt, which the pair released Wednesday, says “Rise to the occasion” a slogan Adidas has used on other team shirts during the NCAA tournament. However, the “s” in “Rise” is replaced with a “5,” Ware’s jersey number. The shirts are selling for $24.99 through the Louisville Cardinals athletics store.
will not see any of the profits from the shirt. Under NCAA rules, college athletes are prohibited from receiving money for their efforts.
“Louisville and Adidas don’t deserve to wring one more cent out of Kevin Ware’s name, and they are greedy vampires for trying to do so now,” Tom Ley wrote on Deadspin.
Ware broke his leg during the first half of his team’s match up against Duke, a game the Cardinals won 85 63. Ware had leaped to try and block a shot by Duke’s Tyler Thornton. His leg landed awkwardly, buckled and flopped as he fell to the ground.
