In March, Jordan Spieth launched Under Armour’s first line of golf shoes. Open last month, Spieth and Under Armour tried something a little different a “smart’ shoe with sensor technology.

“When it comes to daily activity, Jordan could not wear a wearable device (UA Band) on the course to track his performance during competition,” said a release on the technology.

So Under Armour created a shoe for him incorporating the same devices found in the brand’s “smart” running shoe called the Speedform Gemini 2 Record Equipped.

“Data was collected through an embedded motion sensor within the midsole of the shoe that automatically tracked performance metrics such as distance and steps a total of 13,541 steps for the complete 18 hole course,” the release said.

Under Armour has increasingly been venturing into “connected fitness.” It says it wants consumers to be able to access data on how much they sleep, exercise and weigh, what they’ve eaten and even how they feel.
